Terms of use and refund policy

These terms explain how you can use this website, our courses and coaching, and what happens if something isn’t right for you. We’ve kept them as plain as we can.

1. Who we are

Documentary Film Academy (DFA) is a brand of Sunrock Films Ltd. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Documentary Film Academy and Sunrock Films Ltd. You can reach us at [email protected] or through our contact page.

2. Accepting these terms

By using this website or buying a course or coaching from us, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree with them, please don’t use the site or buy from us.

3. Your account

  • When you buy a course, you create an account with your email address and a password.
  • Your account is for you only. Please don’t share your login with anyone else.
  • Keep your password safe, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

4. Courses and access

  • Courses come with lifetime access. This means you can watch them for as long as Documentary Film Academy runs that course, including any updates we add.
  • We may improve, update or reorganise course content over time.
  • You’ll need an internet connection and a device that can play video, such as a computer, tablet or phone.

5. Using the course materials

When you buy a course, you get a personal licence to watch the lessons and use the materials. You can use the templates, worksheets and tools to make your own films, including films you go on to sell, screen or distribute.

You may not:

  • Copy, share, resell or give away the course videos or materials
  • Share your login so other people can watch the course
  • Use the materials to run your own course or training
  • Upload the course content to other websites or servers
  • Remove copyright or ownership notices
  • Try to copy or reverse-engineer the platform or software

If you break these rules, we may end your access without a refund.

6. Coaching

  • Booking: you’ll get a booking link after you pay. Sessions need to be booked within 90 days of payment, unless we agree otherwise.
  • Moving a session: you can reschedule with at least 24 hours’ notice. Missed sessions and late cancellations may not be rescheduled or refunded.
  • What coaching is: coaching is advice and feedback on your film. It doesn’t include hands-on production work, such as filming or editing for you.
  • Results: we can’t guarantee particular outcomes, such as funding, festival selection, distribution or awards.
  • Confidentiality: anything you share about your project stays private unless you give us written permission to share it.
  • Recording: sessions are only recorded if we both agree in advance.

7. Payments

  • Prices, and any payment plans, are shown on the sales page and at checkout.
  • If you choose a payment plan, you agree to pay every instalment. If a payment fails, access may be paused until it’s paid.
  • Payments are processed securely by our platform, Kajabi, and its payment providers. We never see or store your full card details.

8. Refunds and guarantees

  • Documentary Starter Kit: if it isn’t right for you, email us within 7 days of buying and we’ll refund you in full.
  • Documentary Fundamentals: if it isn’t right for you, email us within 30 days of buying and we’ll refund you in full.
  • Coaching packages: if you decide after your first session that coaching isn’t right for you, we’ll refund the sessions you haven’t used.
  • Everything else: purchases are non-refundable unless a different guarantee is stated on the sales page.

To ask for a refund, email [email protected] from the address you used to buy. Refunds go back to your original payment method.

If a technical problem stops us delivering what you paid for, we’ll fix it, or offer a replacement or a refund.

We may refuse service, end access or issue a refund if these terms are misused or broken.

9. Your legal rights

Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

If you’re a consumer in the UK or EU, you normally have 14 days to cancel an online purchase. For a course, you agree when you buy that you’d like access straight away, which means that right ends once you start accessing the course. The money-back guarantees above still apply. For coaching, you can cancel within 14 days of buying. If you ask for a session to take place within those 14 days, you’ll pay for any sessions that have already happened.

10. Disclaimers

  • Our materials are provided “as is”. We do our best to keep them accurate and useful, but we can’t promise they’re free of errors or suitable for every purpose.
  • Documentary Film Academy isn’t a formal educational institution. Course certificates are certificates of completion, not accredited qualifications.
  • Using our courses or coaching doesn’t guarantee success in the film industry, funding for your project, or income.

11. Limitation of liability

As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for any indirect loss or damage connected with your use of our website, courses or coaching. This includes lost income, project failure or harm to your reputation. Our total liability to you for any purchase is limited to the amount you paid for it.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t be limited by law.

12. Intellectual property

All course content, coaching materials and site content belong to Documentary Film Academy and Sunrock Films Ltd. You may not reuse, share or resell them without our written permission.

Your film is yours. Any footage, ideas or projects you share with us in a course or in coaching stay your property.

13. Emails

When you buy from us, we’ll email you about your purchase and your account. We may also send you filmmaking tips and news about our courses. You can unsubscribe from these at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.

Our privacy policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal information.

14. Links to other websites

We sometimes link to other websites. We aren’t responsible for their content or security, so please use them at your own discretion.

15. Our relationship

Your relationship with us is that of a customer. Joining a course or coaching doesn’t make you an employee, partner or agent of Documentary Film Academy.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page. The terms that apply to a purchase are the ones in place when you made it.

17. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you may also be able to bring a claim in your local courts.
